| 2005 Athlete's of the Year |
On August 9, 2005 Amelia Black and Joe Kindred were honored as the Carolina Allstar
2005 Athletes of the Year. Both athletes were participants at the USATF Junior Olympic
National Champioships.
Kindred was honored as a result of his success this summer in three jumping events. He
has won gold in one of the events in each of the four Junior Olympic competitions. Most
notable was his victory at the National Champioships in Indianapolis, Indiana where he
became the firsl Allstar to win at the Nationals. He took gold in the young men's Long Jump
with a leap of 23 feet 6 ¼ inch.
Black also competed at the National Championship in the young women's high jump. She
finished 11th overall in the US. Black was the female points leader for the Carolina Allstar,
and also the USATF State and Regional Championship.
