the United States.
the United States.
Competing in 3 events will be Fuquay-Varina High School All-American Joe Kindred.
Kindred won the high jump, and triple jump, and placed second in the long jump at the
regional meet. “Joe Kindred is one of the best jumpers I have ever seen,” says Coach
Coleman. “There are very few people who can win all three jumps events on this level.” His
best performance was done at the North Carolina USATF State Championship in June. With
the entire crowd holding their breath, Kindred narrowly missed on his attempt of seven feet
in the high jump.
Rueben Malone of Lillington will be competing in 100 meter dash and long jump. Currently
he is ranked second in the U.S. entering the national competition. Malone is in the Midget
Division (Ages 11-12) and follow close in the foot steps of his teammate Joe Kindred.
In the Youth Boys division (Ages 13-14) is CJ Latimore of Holly Springs. He has a personal
best jump of 19 feet 6 inches and is nationally ranked in the top-ten. Latimore also
competed in the high jump at regional championship placing fourth.
Latimore found himself in a catch-22 as the regional competition and AAU National
Basketball tournament fell on the same weekend. However as soon as his track & field
events were completed he hopped in a car and was headed for Florida to play basketball.
He scored 20 plus points in his first game of the tournament.
Last but not least is the allstar duo of Amelia Black and Monique Vines. Black and Vines
who are training partners in the long and triple jump will compete in separate events at
National Competition.
Black will compete in the high jump as a result of her gold medal performance at the
regional. She has a personal best jump of 5 feet 6 inches. She was also the 2005 North
Carolina Indoor and Outdoor State Champion in the triple jump.
Rising Senior Monique Vines will compete in the long jump. Her personal best long jump of
18 feet and 6 ½ inches is also a team record for the Carolina Allstars Team. Vines was the
State Long Jump Champion at the USA Track Field meet held in Boone, NC in June.
