Malone Ready To Jump for National Title
For 11-year, Rueben Malone the long jump is just another fun thing to do. However Malone has proved to be more than just your average jumper.
On July 9th at the USATF Region III Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships Malone gave the best jump of his career. Malone only in his first year of track & field took the gold just missing the regional record by less than three inches. Even more impressive is the fact that it was on his first attempt. His performance was 18 feet and 1 3/4 inches and the record 18 feet 4 1/2 inches.
Malone who has already won the state and sectional championship will be looking for his final win of the season at the national meet. As result of finishing in the top three, he has qualified for the 2005 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana at the end of July. He will be entering the meet ranked #2 in the United States for the Midget Boys division. (Ages 11-12). He has also qualified in the 100 meter dash by placing third with a very fast time of 12.97 seconds.
